Introduction

The Delhi Judiciary Notification, though much expected, arrived in the first week of November, but on very short notice. Only a month’s time was given for the preparation of the preliminary examination, which is scheduled for December 17, 2023. There is a lot of panic among the students regarding exam preparation, strategy, and time management. Therefore, the present article aims to provide the DJS aspirant with some last-minute tips to clear the preliminary examinations.

It is to be noted that though each student differs significantly from the other on the parameters of his or her extent of preparation and the style of learning and revising, the tips presented in the article are general in nature and may be kept in mind by any aspirant of Delhi Judicial Services (DJS).

Here are some last-minute tips to help you prepare for the Delhi judiciary prelims exams:

  1. Understand the exam pattern thoroughly. Familiarize yourself with the exam pattern, and make sure you have covered all the important topics. Focus on areas that carry more weight in the exam. Have a clear understanding of the areas where more questions are being asked. You can take the risk of leaving insignificant portions at this stage if you have not covered or prepared those areas beforehand.
  2. Practice previous-year question papers: Solve previous-year question papers to get an idea of the exam pattern and types of questions asked. This will help you identify your weak areas and work on them in the remaining time.
  3. Be through with the Bare Act. At this stage, as we know, it’s only preliminary, so do focus on the details given in the Bare Act. It has been seen that DJS too covers direct questions from the Bare Act.
  4. Revise important concepts: DJS is also concept-based. Therefore, go through your notes and revise important concepts, legal principles, and landmark judgments. At this stage, you need not memorize all your notes but only an understanding of those notes so that you will be able to solve not only the direct questions from the Bare Act but also the concept-based and some case-law-related questions.
  5. Take mock tests. Attempting mock tests will help you assess your preparation level and improve your time management skills. It will also give you a feel for the actual exam environment. It will take out the exam fear if it is your first attempt. You can access any judiciary coaching to practice more and more mock tests. The more you practice, the more efficient you become.
  6. Refrain from studying anything new at the last moment. It is advisable to revise more and refrain from studying anything at least 10–12 days before the exam. If you try to cover the unfinished portion at the last stage, it will cost you the finished portion too. Therefore, you should first use that time to revise the portion that you have already covered.
  7. Study smartly: At this stage, you should not waste your time on unnecessary things or covering minute details. You need to first cover important topics based on your past-year analysis.
  8. Revise current legal affairs: Keep yourself updated with current legal developments, landmark judgments, and recent amendments to laws as they form part of the syllabus. However, don’t waste much time only on legal knowledge, looking for those judgments, or preparing your notes for legal G.K. Instead, get in touch with any DJS coaching and get the ready-made material from there. It will save you time, which you can utilize accordingly.
  9. Manage your time effectively. At this stage, it becomes essential that you utilize your time effectively. You have 24 hours in a day, and by studying for 12–13 hours in a day, you can manage your time effectively. Create a study schedule and allocate time for each subject or topic. Stick to your schedule and avoid procrastination. Prioritize topics that you find challenging.
  10. Eat healthy. What you eatalso affects your health. Unhealthy food makes you feel sleepy and tired, while healthy food energizes you and gives you a sense of positivity. Therefore, you can make healthy food as part of your preparation too.
  11. Avoid last-minute cramming and unnecessary stress. A healthy mind and body will help you perform better in the exam. Remember, it’s important to stay calm and confident during the exam. Trust your preparation and give your best effort. Good luck!

Conclusion

A judicial examination is not only about cramming sections and case laws, especially for exams like DJS. They also check your understanding and your grip on the concepts. Therefore, you need to prepare accordingly. The most difficult thing that has been added today is time management. Therefore, you need to prepare accordingly, and you may include these last-minute tips that are discussed in the article.
