Eligibility Criteria

The Rajasthan Judicial Services Exam is a gateway for legal professionals to enter the esteemed judiciary of the state. Before embarking on the journey to become a part of this esteemed service, candidates must meet certain eligibility criteria.

The eligibility criteria for the Rajasthan Judicial Services Exam are designed to ensure that only the most qualified and deserving candidates enter the judiciary. Aspiring candidates should thoroughly review these criteria and make sure they meet each requirement before applying.

Educational Qualifications:

The foundation of eligibility begins with the educational qualifications. Aspiring candidates must possess a degree in law, Bachelor’s in Law (Professional) LLB from a recognized university. This degree should be granted by an institution approved by the Bar Council of India.

Age Limit:

Age is a crucial factor in determining eligibility. Typically, candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 40. However, there are relaxations in the upper age limit for candidates from certain categories, as per government regulations.

Experience Requirements: In some other states, Judicial Services exams  may require candidates to have a minimum period of legal practice. This could range from practicing as an advocate to serving in a judicial or legal department. However there is No such requirement in RJS. However candidates are advised to seek RJS coaching in Jaipur to get familiar with the various intricacies of RJS exam that may change with the new notification.

Nationality and Domicile: Candidates must be an Indian citizen to be eligible for the Rajasthan Judicial Services Exam. Additionally, for availing certain exemptions and relaxation under various categories, specific domicile certificate is required ensuring that the candidate has a connection to the state of Rajasthan.

Character and Conduct: Maintaining a high standard of character and conduct is integral for a judicial officer. As part of the eligibility criteria, candidates need to provide three character certificates.

 

    • Form the Vice Chancellor/ Dean/ Principle of the candidate’s university, college, or school.

 

  • Two certificates issued not more than 6 months before the time of registration for the exam. Notably the issuer should not be related to the candidate personally nor any person related to the educational institute from which the candidate has graduated.

Physical Fitness: There is fitness test according to the guidelines by the Rajasthan High Court that must be cleared by the candidates. This is to ensure that candidates are physically capable of performing the duties associated with the role.

Exam Pattern.

The Rajasthan Judicial Services Exam is a significant milestone for individuals aspiring to serve in the state judiciary. Understanding the exam pattern is crucial for effective preparation and success. This is the first thing told to the candidates at several RJS coaching in Jaipur.

Preliminary Examination:

The journey begins with the Preliminary Examination, which serves as a screening test. It typically consists of objective-type questions covering areas of Law and language. The total number of questions is 100. The Law part comprises of 70 % Questions while Language carries 30 % weightage (15% of Hindi and 15% of English). The candidates have to secure a minimum qualifying mark that is 45 % and for the candidates belonging to of SC/ST categories it is 40 %.  There is    No negative marking for any wrong answers and the marks of Prelims exam doesn’t add up to final merit list.  RJS generally admits 15 times the total number of the vacancies (category wise) for writing Mains Exams. The main objective is to filter candidates for the main examination.

Prelims Exam Syllabus for Law: Same as prescribed for Law Paper I & II for Mains Examination.

Mains examination:

Those who successfully navigate the preliminary round move on to the Main Examination, a more in-depth assessment of legal knowledge and aptitude. The main examination comprises written papers. There are two papers of Law and two of Language. The duration for writing law papers is Three Hours where as for the Language papers it is Two hours. The written papers are designed to test not only the candidate’s understanding of legal concepts but also their ability to articulate and express ideas coherently.

Interview/Personality Test: The Viva Voce or interview phase marks the final leg of the RJS examination. The interview or Viva Voce carries 35 Marks. Those who successfully navigate the Prelims and Mains, securing a minimum aggregate of 40%, with at least 35% in the Law papers, proceed to the interview round. This phase assesses candidates’ understanding of Rajasthan’s social customs, dialects, legal proficiency, and overall personality.
