S. 44. “Injury”, -under IPC

The word “injury” denotes any harm whatever illegally caused to any person, in body, mind, reputation or property.

As defined in section 44 IPC, 1860, “injury” denotes any harm whatever illegally caused to any person in body, mind, reputation or property. Now, if a person wants to save himself from injury, such as conviction in a criminal case, it does not mean that he caused injury to another. The ambit of word Injury is wide and  it is made applicable in in of private defence .

If anyone falsely accuses one or defame one it is said to have caused a mental dent and a loss of repute of that person hence injury is being caused.
