First Information Report

The First Information Report (FIR) is mentioned in Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code while the Occurrence Report is mentioned in Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The FIR only applies to cognizable offences, while the occurrence report covers both cognizable and non-cognizable offences.
As a result, the officer in charge of the police station sends a copy of the FIR to the judicial magistrate along with an occurrence report. In this report, the judicial magistrate is indicated by the officer that these has been commission of some offence and that whether or not he is investigating the case, and if not, he notes why.
