Himachal Pradesh judiciary: About

The Himachal Pradesh High Court holds an annual competitive exam called the Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Examination to fill the positions of Junior Division Civil Judges.

The three stages that make up the Himachal Judiciary examination pattern are as follows:

  • Prelims Examination (Objective Type)
  • Mains Written Examination (Subjective Type)
  • Viva Voce.

Himachal Pradesh judiciary vacancy

In the HPJS notification, the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission will include the HPJS vacancies for the year 2024. The specifics of the HPJS 2024 vacancies will be released in each category.

Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Syllabus 2024

The Himachal Pradesh judiciary syllabus is as follows:

For the Preliminary Examination:

The preliminary examination will comprise the three papers and be of an objective kind. Every paper carries 100 marks. Every paper will last for an hour.

Paper I: Civil Law I (100 marks)

  • Questions on the Code of Civil Procedure.
  • Questions on the Indian Evidence Act.
  • Questions on the Indian Stamp Act.
  • Questions on the Himachal Pradesh Courts Act, 1976 and
  • Questions on the Specific Relief Act.

Paper II: Civil Law II (100 marks)

  • Questions on the Indian Contract Act.
  • Questions on the Hindu Law.
  • Questions on the Indian Limitation Act.
  • Questions on the Transfer of Property Act and
  • Questions on the H.P. Urban Rent Control Act.

Paper III: Criminal Law (100 marks)

  • Questions on the Indian Penal Code.
  • Questions on the Criminal Procedure Code.
  • Questions on the Chapter-XVII (Sections 138 to 143) of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
  • Questions on the H.P. Excise Act (2011) pertaining to the State of H.P.
  • Questions on the Wild Life Protection Act and
  • Questions on the Indian Forest Act.

For the Mains Examination:

There are five papers in the mains written exam. It will take approximately three hours to finish each paper. The preliminary exam will follow the same syllabus as the main examination’s Paper I through Paper III.

Paper I: Civil Law I (200 marks)

  • Questions on the Code of Civil Procedure.
  • Questions on the Indian Evidence Act.
  • Questions on the Indian Stamp Act.
  • Questions on the Himachal Pradesh Courts Act, 1976 and
  • Questions on the Specific Relief Act.

Paper II: Civil Law II (200 marks)

Paper IV: English Comprehension (200 marks)

Choice of three pieces of writing on General Subjects. (The Himachal Pradesh University graduation test will serve as the benchmark for the English paper.)

  • 100 marks for the essay
  • 50 marks for translating a passage from Hindi to English.

Paper V: Language (Hindi) (200 marks)

Hindi (written in Devanagari Script) No books are recommended. The following will be included in the Hindi paper:

  • Hindi translation of a passage in English carries 30 marks
  • A Hindi essay about any of the three topics carries 50 marks.
  • Composition (Corrections and Idioms, etc.) carries 20 marks.

For the Viva Voce:

  • The last step in the selection procedure is the HPJS Vivo Voce. Those who pass the mains exam must show up for the HPJS Viva Voce round.
  • The maximum mark allotted for the Vivo Voce round is 150.
  • The marks earned in this round will be combined with the marks from the main exam. A minimum of 45% is required for candidates to advance to this stage.
