Inherent powers under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code have broad implications and include the ability to conduct speedy criminal investigations, FIRs, and other legal actions currently being pursued before the High Court or any jurisdictions below it. Depending on the specifics of a case, these powers may be used to uphold the goals of justice, prevent misuse of any court’s process, and issue any orders required to carry out any orders issued under this Code. The court can always take note of any injustice and stop it by using its authority under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code. No other clause of the Code restricts or limits their powers in any way.

It is well-established that the inherent powers under section 482 may only be used when the claimant has no other viable recourse rather than when the law specifically provides a relief. The High Court won’t use its authority under this section if an efficient alternative remedy is available, notably if the petitioner might not have used it.
